PHNOM PENH, Feb. 25 (Khmer Times) –The Phnom Penh District Authority stopped illegal construction from operating in the Chroy Chongvar district, Kien Khlang village on Tuesday, saying the building violates a number of construction laws.

The authority found that the illegal construction site was run by Long Chantha, the owner of land. The construction site began work on a new building without permission from the city and was being built in a satellite city development zone.
The Phnom Penh Authority also said the site is only 100 meters from national street 6A, which isn’t enough distance according to city regulations.
The authority found that the construction site was building an apartment complex that violates the 21.1 meter x 49.5 meter designated size for buildings within the satellite city development zone.
Mr. Chantha said that he requested permits from the authority to continue building within the development zone.
He said almost every building was constructed without regard for construction laws within the development zone. He wants the authority to let him continue building because he has 60 construction workers on payroll.
The Phnom Penh Authority decided to stop all construction in the area for a short time so that owners of the land can request permits from the authority before restarting their work.
