Cambodia could face flash flooding across the country due to a predicted typhoon off the central part of Vietnam in the South China Sea, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology published on Wednesday.

In a five-day forecast for September 9 to 13, the ministry warned that much of the country’s central corridor will be affected by rains, causing a heightened risk of flash floods in Phnom Penh, Kampong Speu, Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Thom, and Siem Reap provinces.

Especially heavy rains and storms are predicted for coastal areas, causing waves from one to two-and-a-half metres. The ministry warned fishermen and other boaters in the region to be cautious.
